Painting of the Month

Spanish painter Diego Rodriguez de Silva y Velázquez was born in 1599 in Sevilla and died in 1660 in Madrid. He was the great swordsman painter. His only rival in history has been Sargeant, but Sargeant seemed to turn toward fencing and playing for points, whereas with Velázquez the swords were sharp and cut deeply.
